During the past 12 months, our unit has weathered some of the most difficult trials that any of us has ever faced. During this time this nurse has fought, researched, and worked to ensure that the unit staff had all available tools and resources to do their jobs to the best of their abilities. In addition to ensuring that the unit ran as well as it could have under the extreme conditions that the pandemic caused, she stood beside her staff doing patient care. She assumed patient loads, worked late, worked on days off, and helped during codes and all-out crisis shifts. She has advocated for every single one of her fellow nurses every step of the way and demonstrated true leadership during crisis. True leadership requires one to know the challenges that are faced and this nurse knows them first hand. She has stood on the battlefield fighting with her fellow nurses rather than watching from the wings. I am proud of her sacrifice, bravery, and love for her fellow nurses.
