Eliza took it upon herself to set up and organize a clothing closet for our patients in need on COOP 4.
I have had the privilege of working with Eliza over the past 5 years as a nurse on COOP 4 where I have watched her grow and thrive. Eliza consistently provides personalized, patient-centered care and given the opportunity, will always go above and beyond to meet patients’ needs, physical and emotional. She frequently is in the role of charge nurse, leading with kindness, patience, and compassion, managing challenging situations with humor and grace. I admire her communication style as she is always calm, supportive, and inclusive with patients and families alike. She always takes time to explain things in a way that patients and families can understand, never appearing rushed or “too busy.”

Eliza is an informal leader on the unit, always role modeling positive behaviors. She is a sought-after preceptor for new nurses and participates in local and hospital-wide initiatives as a Skin Champion and Secretary of her unit-based shared governance council. Eliza regularly seeks out educational opportunities to further refine her skill set and stay on the cutting edge of evidence-based practice. Eliza is a prime exemplar of nursing excellence, elevating practice by innovation and working to the top of her license and skill set. She has a keen eye for safety and consistently identifies barriers to processes and areas for improvement while offering realistic solutions. She has been the catalyst of multiple innovations and systems changes to improve patient safety hospital-wide.

I am most humbled by Eliza’s thoughtfulness and selflessness. Eliza took it upon herself to set up and organize a clothing closet for our patients in need on COOP 4. She has taken it a step further and obtained additional patient comfort items including diversion activities, stuffed animals, and basic toiletries. She most recently went out of her way to provide a house coat for a patient of advanced age who has been hospitalized on the unit for >400 days to bring her a sense of comfort and home.

Eliza is truly an unsung hero. Her dedication to providing high-quality care is evident in her daily practice. She embodies our C.A.R.E. values, consistently going above and beyond the call of duty without even realizing it.
