I am the Registered Nurse Supervisor who works for the Caregiver Support Program here at the GCVHCS. I would like to recognize one of my nurses who went above and beyond to provide education related to Respite Services to the Veteran and Caregiver during the Veteran/Caregiver Assessment phase of the application process for the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC). The Caregiver had expressed a great deal of stress in not being able to attend to her own medical needs and wanting/needing time to rest and recharge herself. Respite allows time for the Caregiver to accomplish much-needed self-care, go to appointments, run errands, and rest. Respite helps to prevent caregiver burnout and fatigue. RN Williams reached out to the PACT Team to ensure proper placement of the consult. RN Williams diligently followed up with the PACT team to check the status of the consult since we in the Caregiver Support Program are not able to place consults at this time. RN Williams noted that the consult had not been placed despite several attempts to reach the PACT Team. This had been going on for 3 weeks without a resolution, which led to a delay in patient care needs. RN Williams initiated a report in the Joint Patient Safety Reporting System to report the delay in care. A consult was finally placed, which allowed Respite services to be provided to the Veteran and Caregiver. I must say that RN Williams definitely exemplifies the VA core values of Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect and Excellence in all she does to provide the right care at the right time to not only our Veterans but to their family as well in their most vulnerable time of of need.

RN Williams exemplifies INTEGRITY by adhering to the highest professional standards and maintains trust and confidence with all Veterans and Caregivers she engages at the GCVHCS.

RN Williams exemplifies COMMITMENT by working diligently with all members of the PACT team to ensure all Veterans' needs are met. She is fully committed to the VA's Mission to ensure all Veterans and Caregivers under her charge have the right care at the right time. She is committed to her job and gives 110% without hesitation when asked.

RN Williams exhibits ADVOCACY by going above and beyond for Veterans and their family to ensure their needs are met at one of the most difficult times in their lives.
RN Williams exemplifies RESPECT by treating not only Veterans and Caregivers but her fellow colleagues as well with civility and dignity when she comes in contact with either one. She gives selflessly of her time and is eager to share her wealth of nursing knowledge related to Respite care with her co-workers along the GCVHCS, who speak very highly of her.

RN Williams exemplifies EXCELLENCE in all she does by striving for the highest quality and continuous improvement for all Veterans and Caregivers under her charge. She has excellent customer service skills, and I have experienced this in action firsthand numerous times with our Veterans and Caregivers along the GCVHCS. She is very dedicated to her work, and that is why I think and KNOW she deserves this honorable DAISY Award. RN Williams exemplifies every aspect of what this award stands for. Again, it is my great honor and pleasure to not only supervise and work collaboratively with her but also to acknowledge her commitment to care.

Thank you, Elizabeth, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
