Beth was my labor and delivery nurse and my nurse the first night postpartum. As a first time mom, and a fellow nurse at AMC, I was nervous, excited, experiencing many emotions and pain. Beth was so helpful, calming, and a constant teacher during my whole experience. During the labor process, she was right by my side the whole time, coaching, calming, and encouraging me, without being annoying or hovering. She made my husband feel included and comforted as well. She even stayed over into the day shift to be there when the baby was born at 0755. I truly couldn't have wished for a better nurse to be there with me for my first child birthing experience.
My first night with a brand new baby, Beth was back and my husband and I were so happy to see her again. She would sit down in the room with us and provide education, encouragement, and advice. She never rushed, always took the time to listen and answer any questions or concerns, and truly cared for our brand new little family.
Breastfeeding was a challenge for us at first, and Beth could tell I was getting frustrated. She would sit with me, help with positioning, and provide words of encouragement. Toward the end of the night shift, Beth took the baby, with our blessing, to the nurses' station for a couple of hours so that my husband and I could get a couple of hours of uninterrupted sleep since we had been awake the majority of the last 24 hours. Beth was one of the most compassionate and caring nurses I have ever been around; I believe she was created by God to be there with families as they go through this truly miraculous and life changing experience. My husband and I will never forget Beth and how wonderful she made this special time in our lives.
As a nurse, Beth makes me want to strive to be a better caregiver who is caring, giving, always educating, and totally invested in my patients and their families. All the nurses that cared for us in the Women and Children's Unit were wonderful, but Beth was extraordinary!
