Ella has been an amazing nurse from the beginning. She is kind, caring, knowledgeable, and compassionate. I was fortunate enough to work with her for a few days. In those few days, she made me feel extremely comfortable in an uncomfortable situation. I was hospitalized for an eating disorder, and I never felt judged. In fact, when I was upset and felt I didn’t belong here and that I was taking up space, she assured me that I wasn’t; I mattered.

When I had an emotional day and was frustrated beyond what I thought I could handle, Ella helped me feel confident that I was in control. She offered me alternative methods to ease my anxiety and continued to follow up to make sure I was okay. She reached out to other providers within the hospital (i.e., PT, OT, Chaplain, psychiatrist, and physicians). Ella had the kindness to go to the gift shop and purchase a pair of slippers and flowers for me. It was so thoughtful and felt genuine.

When I had questions, Ella helped me understand. I take many medications and am being tube fed as well, and I never felt rushed. She made me feel as though I was her only patient. Also, if I had any questions at all, she would help explain, and if she didn’t know the answer, she would find the resources I needed. I never felt she was condescending but filled with care, compassion, and confidence. Ella will remain in my heart long after I leave the hospital. I don’t plan on coming back to the hospital, but if I do, I know that if any of my nurses are as passionate about their job as Ella is, then I am in good hands.

This is just one small gesture that I can do to show my gratitude. Thank you for allowing me to let her know that she has made a difference in my life, and I am confident she will continue to spread her joy to others.
