During the time when my daughter was in the NICU, Ella was a shining light in the darkness. Over the Christmas holidays when we could not visit the NICU, Ella kept me fully informed of my daughter's status and made me feel assured that she was in the best hands possible. When my husband and I had to make the difficult decision to give our daughter only comfort care, the two days we spent living in the hospital were very difficult. Ella was with us for the two nights our daughter was alive, and she cared for all of us. She made me feel okay to sleep for a few hours because she would check on our daughter repeatedly. I remember waking up at 3:00 am to see Ella tucking my daughter back into her blanket, and then turning to my husband on the bed next to her and also tucking him in. You can see her genuine empathy, kindness, and love in everything she does. She is so gentle and sweet with every baby she meets and interacts with. She also makes the parents feel supported and cared for as well. She is also a creative and colourful woman, taking the time when she had it to make an art piece I got to take home dedicated to my daughter. It was an honour to have her be a part of my daughter's life. And it was an honour to have her care for our family. The entire NICU nursing staff is amazing, but I will never forget Ella for being my daughter's other mother and supporting my husband and me through the worst experience of our lives. We love you Ella!
