Elle has continuously shown a deep understanding of her patients' feelings and struggles. She demonstrates empathy towards them and makes sure they feel heard and understood.
I have worked with Elle on a regular basis for the past 6 years and I am very excited to nominate her for the DAISY Award.

Nursing is one of the most demanding and rewarding professions in healthcare. It requires a unique combination of skills, knowledge, and personal attributes to provide quality care to patients. Elle, being an outstanding nurse, has these traits that make her a valuable member of the healthcare team.

One of the most important traits of a good nurse is compassion. Elle has continuously shown a deep understanding of her patients' feelings and struggles. She demonstrates empathy towards them and makes sure they feel heard and understood. Her compassionate nature creates a safe and caring environment for her patients, making them feel comfortable and at ease.

Another essential trait of a good nurse is communication skills. Elle is an excellent communicator who listens actively and communicates effectively with providers, patients, and patients' families. She explains complex medical terms in simple language, making it easier for her patients to understand their diagnosis and treatment. Elle also takes the time to answer questions and address concerns, ensuring that her patients are well informed and involved in their care.

She consistently pays meticulous attention to her patient needs. She puts tremendous effort into trying to improve the patient's well being by oftentimes focusing not only on the medical care but on the mobility, personal hygiene, and physical and occupational therapy aspect of the care. She is also very detail-oriented. I recall one time a patient was admitted with Guillain-Barre syndrome and I was consulted to institute plasmapheresis as a part of this treatment regimen. In my note, I had indicated that the patient should not be on an ACE-inhibitor through his plasmapheresis treatments as in some patients this causes significant drops in blood pressure when we replaced the blood plasma with albumin as a part of the procedure. This particular patient had their medication reconciliation adjusted after I had seen them and an ACE-inhibitor was added without my knowledge. Elle called me to let me know prior to starting plasmapheresis that the patient was on the ACE-inhibitor and we were able to stop it to prevent this rare but serious complication. This would have been something hard to catch but she was able to review my note and the medication record before we started plasmapheresis hence the ability to make this change. This was an excellent catch. Being very attentive to the small details of patient care is a very strong trait of hers.

Patience is another important trait that makes Elle an excellent nurse. She understands that some patients may be difficult to deal with, but she remains calm and patient in all situations. She takes the time to build trust and establish rapport with her patients, ensuring that they feel valued and respected.

Lastly, Elle has a strong work ethic and a positive attitude towards her work. She is dedicated to her job and works tirelessly to provide the best possible care to her patients. She is also a team player who collaborates with other healthcare team members to ensure that her patients receive comprehensive care.

In conclusion, Elle possesses the qualities of an exceptional nurse. Her compassion, communication skills, patience, and strong work ethic definitely make her stand out. These traits enable her to provide high-quality care to her patients and make a positive impact on their lives. She is a valuable member of the care team, and her patients are fortunate to have her at the bedside.

Elle deserves to be recognized for her excellent work. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
