I am a staff nurse in PACU but was helping in Endoscopy on this particular day. We were doing a routine procedure and our patient coded. Codes rarely happen in Endoscopy or Surgical Services and the code team was in Endo immediately which was very reassuring. Ellen Adams, an ED nurse, was in ACLS this day and had just finished. She was walking to the ED after the class and when she heard the “Code Blue” called, she came. She could have kept on walking. She not only came when she was not on duty, she stayed well after the code was called to help me with the unfamiliar paperwork. She was so patient and didn’t make me feel hurried even though it was well past her time to go home.

The day after the code, she brought flowers to PACU because she said, “I knew you all had a bad day yesterday and thought this may brighten your day.” Ellen went way above her job requirements that day and did it patiently with a smile. She was a life saver to me and this is why I want to nominate her for the DAISY Award.
