Shortly after we were taken into a room, this angel of a nurse came in. Her name was Ellen. From the moment she entered, I felt at ease.
My daughter had an allergic reaction to something which caused her to have hives, bumps, and complete redness all over her body. She was uncomfortable and scared. My daughter is "special needs". She does not walk or talk and is fed via a G-tube. She has no self-help skills. Because she is non-verbal and cannot tell me what is wrong or what hurts, it is a guessing game.

Shortly after we were taken into a room, this angel of a nurse came in. Her name was Ellen. From the moment she entered, I felt at ease. Not only was she polite and professional with the sweetest, most caring personality, but her skills were also top-notch. She engaged with my daughter A and explained everything she was doing (even though she knew A didn't comprehend). She treated her like an adult.

Most people see her disability and disregard her feelings. But not Ellen, she made A feel comfortable. A needed an IV. She is not an easy stick but Ellen got it done on her 1st try. While we waited for the "PA" to see A, Ellen came back into the room several times to see if we needed anything. She was so pleasant I could tell she generally cared for her patients. In a fast-paced environment such as the ED, it is easy to get overlooked but Ellen took the time to make sure that we were "good". She made such an impression on me because of the way she treated my daughter that I felt she should be recognized for going above and beyond for her patients. Bravo to Ellen! *on another note, this was our 1st visit to this hospital.
