Ellen came in on her day off for two special reasons. First, she came in for me so that I could take my daughter on her first field trip. And second, the patient we took care of had been with us for a couple weeks as an antepartum.

But on this particular day, the patient was on day two of trying to be induced. The patient had grown very close with Ellen and was happy to see her while I was gone for a couple of hours. When I returned and took it back over, it looked like the patient was going to need a c-section due to her body not going into labor. Ellen offered to come back later to help with the c-section. Ellen went home and out of the kindness of her heart, came back a few hours later to be there for the patient. Ellen was not only able to help me with the c-section but showed compassion to the patient. She became the patient’s support person due to no family being there. Ellen was able to keep the patient calm through the c-section by talking to her and holding her hand. If it wasn’t for Ellen, this patient’s experience wouldn’t have been as well as it was. Thank you, Ellen for being an amazing and compassionate nurse.
