Ellie Beers, RN

On the DAISY website, it says the following: “Nurses every day go above and beyond to not only provide patients and families with excellence in clinical care but also compassion.” This describes Ellie. She has not only worked so hard to learn and grow into a competent, proficient RN, but she also shows so much care and compassion while doing it.

There are countless examples I can give to support this. One example is her care for a “long stay” patient on our unit. This patient has been with us for over two years. The staff on our unit consistently show this patient the utmost care and compassion. Ellie is no exception.

This year for Easter, she made him an Easter basket and did an Easter egg hunt with him on the unit. In addition, she has gathered photos of friends and family in his room. Ellie recently made him a “scrapbook” with all the photos. She also included special things like a photo of a flag from his native country. The patient is always so happy to look through the book.

Ellie is also extremely helpful to her fellow co-workers. Even if she is having a busy day, she will quickly get up without being asked to help a peer.

This week we had skills fair day, and she came in on her day off to get signed off on the required competencies. When she found out a peer who was working on the floor needed coverage to get signed off, she volunteered to cover their patients so they could get signed off, knowing she would miss her opportunity to get signed off and need to attend the next skills fair. This was such an incredible act of kindness and selflessness.

We are so fortunate to have Ellie on our team, and she should be recognized for both her care and her compassion. Thank you, Ellie, for all you do!
