I was admitted to the cardiac floor at SLUH. I relocated from Kansas to Missouri very recently. I left an abusive relationship and had also relapsed into alcohol. I wanted to start fresh and also attend a substance abuse program in downtown St. Louis. I was admitted with aortic valve failure. It was a lot. I was afraid but open. I was pretty much homeless, as I was moving into a sober living house the day I was brought to SLUH. I'm still not sure my space will be there as I could not complete the forms that were needed for my housing. I shared about my addiction and my family and introduced Ellie Meil to my son so he could share his concerns. Ellie listened. Ellie is compassionate, open-minded, and so organized, which is amazing. She helped me to just be. I want to accept my situation and, above all, take care of my health. She understood and assured me it would all work out. She listened and helped me accept that the valve procedure was done on many people, and their recovery was good. She's attentive and prompt. When she says she will come back, she returns. She's a fine example of what an upstanding nurse and person should be. She is a valuable asset to society. Thank you, Ellie.

Thank you, Ellie, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
