I am honored to nominate Ellie Taylor for the DAISY Award for the extraordinary compassion and kindness she showed to a patient on 3 South. This patient has endured weeks of hospitalization following a tracheostomy and PEG tube placement. With minimal motor strength, she relies completely on others for her daily needs, a situation that can feel isolating and overwhelming.

Ellie saw beyond the patient’s medical challenges and focused on her humanity. On the patient’s birthday, Ellie transformed what could have been an ordinary day into something unforgettable. She decorated the room with balloons, gifted a silk pillowcase, and created a spa-like experience complete with a warm bath, soothing massage, and gentle hair detangling. She even curated a personalized TV marathon of the patient’s favorite show.

Just a week ago, the patient seemed to be withdrawn and hopeless. Today, she radiates joy, smiling from ear to ear, because Ellie took the time to make her feel valued, cared for, and loved. Ellie’s compassion didn’t just brighten a day; it restored hope and dignity. Her actions exemplify the very heart of nursing.
