We thought we were admitting our son to the Short Stay Unit as a precautionary measure due to his slowed eating and lethargic behavior. In the early morning hours, our world turned upside down when we awoke to multiple nurses in our room trying to get our son to respond to anything; he was virtually lifeless. He was rushed down to the PICU where he was intubated on top of succumbing to other various major medical procedures we had never even heard of. The sight of our 6-wk old baby with all of those tubes and wires coming off/out of him and the unimaginable running through our heads, left us in a state of utter shock, despair, and helplessness. We weren't mentally prepared for this as new parents. The doctors and nurses left no stone unturned until they found out what was wrong with our child. When he was finally diagnosed, it was time to hurry up and wait for the Baby BIG to be flown in and administered.
Through all this, every nurse and doctor continued to be there for him and helped ease our overwhelming anxiety. It was a huge relief when we were finally moved up to the fourth floor where our son would begin his recovery. You were all with him every step of the way, all in a collective effort to save our son's life. There is not a single one of you that didn't show compassion, care, and empathy towards our son and family. If it was not for your care and compassion for our son's extremely rare ailment, it's a very real and terrifying possibility that he would no longer be with us. The words on this letter can only account for a very small percentage of the gratitude we have for each and every individual who cared for our son because there simply aren't enough words to express how thankful we are.
It is officially 2 months later, and his smiles and bright blue eyes are nothing short of heart melting. Thanks to you, we will be able to raise our son into a loving home with a loving family. Thanks to you we can proudly and undoubtedly say you saved his life. For this reason, we are forever grateful for each and every one of you. A special thank you to Ellie. She was the nurse who was with us the most. Ellie is truly an amazing caregiver. Not only did she take amazing care of our son, but she always made sure that we were well taken care of as well.
