I was very scared and nervous when I came in. Elma's sweet personality made me feel better. She always made sure I had what I needed or wanted. When there were questions about my meds she would explain or double-check with the doctor to make sure I felt okay about what I was taking or may plan of care. When my B/P dropped she kept an eye on it so it didn't go to low. Today when she came in she asked me if I had a good day right off and said she would be back as they were rounding. I felt bad all day due to a med I wasn't supposed to take that morning but was ordered by the hospitalist. I was really nauseated, light-headed, and had chest pain and felt really bad. Elma came in immediately and put me on oxygen, checked my vitals, and stayed with me making sure I knew I was not alone. She said was there to help me get through it and not to worry.
I have been on the floor before and other floors for some of the same problems and especially the ER. I have never had a nurse who clearly loves her job and cares about her patients. She is also very respectful to her co-workers. They all seem to love her as well. WellStar is very blessed to have her. Having someone who truly cares in a very scary time is important and if more nurses would just take the extra min to check on the patients the way she did, it would make all patient care better. I hope that if I am ever admitted again that Elma is my nurse. She truly made this visit better for me making me smile, answering my questions, and helping me more than anything to know that I am not alone. She is absolutely amazing.
Note: This is Elma's 2nd DAISY Award!
