Elsie stayed past her shift to ensure that things went smoothly.
Elsie is a true patient advocate through and through. The most recent example I have is the care and compassion she exhibited to a patient and his family. This young patient needed to be transferred to another facility to continue his care. There was much involvement with Social Work, the receiving hospital (several departments), and of course nursing.
Elsie had created a strong rapport with not only the patient but also his siblings and guardian. There were many logistical mountains to overcome to get this child the care he needed. Elsie helped to facilitate this, all the while paying close attention and meeting the needs of the patient while he was on our unit. She recognized that the guardian had come to feel safe and trust her, and Elsie did not want to break that link. She stayed past her shift to ensure that things went smoothly. The patient ultimately did get transferred and never "fell through the cracks".
This is only one example of the kind, compassionate nursing care Elsie delivers, but honestly, this is part of who she is, and would go that extra mile for any of her patients. In addition to this, she would do the same for her coworkers. The Cleveland Clinic is very fortunate to have her as a caregiver.
