For Nurse Elvira S. Solomon, nursing transcends mere profession. It embodies an ongoing journey of education, compassion, and insight. It signifies a heartfelt commitment to alleviating pain and improving lives. A particularly unforgettable incident involved a Probationary Officer Training Course (POTC) patient grappling with severe hypokalemia, a condition she acquired during her training. While some regarded it as a standard medical concern, for the patient, it posed a significant risk to her aspirations. Her anxiety was evident, and her spirit noticeably diminished. She understood that care went beyond just medications and monitoring vital signs; it demanded presence, empathy, and reassurance. By engaging in active listening, sharing stories, and simply being there, she provided a calming presence amidst the patient's distress. The patient’s tenacity, eloquently expressed in the saying “mahina man physically, pero mataas sa attitude,” served as a profound source of motivation, and observing her strength turned into a cherished experience. Inspired by firsthand encounters with training-related trauma, preventable injuries, and sleep deprivation among military trainees, Nurse Elvira took the initiative to lead a research project centered on sleep quality and overall wellness. It was a challenging pursuit, filled with late nights, ethical dilemmas, and methodological obstacles. Still, each challenge presented a chance to learn, to enhance, and ultimately to convert findings into clinical advancements for patients both inside and outside the hospital.

Thank you, Elvira S, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
