When my wife was not doing well and nearing hospice, Elyse had the difficult conversations with us about what the situation might look like, how we would feel, and how it was okay to transition to the next steps.
My wife was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and Elyse was the first nurse she encountered on our journey. Elyse cared for my wife during her first dialysis session, after chemotherapy and radiation took a toll on her body. Lisa came into the hospital very sick and discouraged, but Elyse was the light she needed to accomplish some of the goals necessary to go home. Never once did I worry about my wife when Elyse was with her. My wife had many hospital stays over a 6-month period. Many times, while on life-saving medications, Elyse made everything easy to understand. Whenever possible, we always requested Elyse as a nurse; even when she wasn't assigned to my wife, she would stop by to talk to her, help her get cleaned up, or just give her a quick hug. When my wife was not doing well and nearing hospice, Elyse had the difficult conversations with us about what the situation might look like, how we would feel, and how it was okay to transition to the next steps. She was a true comfort to our family. I still stop by to say hello and give Elyse a hug when I can. She truly is an example of a loving person and will forever be a part of our family.
