Elyssa did an incredible job with a patient on inpatient hospice, whom she found to be in severe distress this morning. Elyssa immediately recognized patient pain, discomfort, and severe respiratory distress and acted quickly - first by alerting the ICU team to get an immediate med order, then by contacting the palliative care team who had been following the patient. Elyssa was professional, coordinated, organized, and kept a clear head, effectively communicating and advocating for the needs of the patient. She did not leave the patient's bedside until comfort had been achieved and remained in communication with the palliative team, providing updates on what the patient needed. She was also wonderful with the family, who arrived to see their loved one in distress, providing education and emotional support, while still managing to get medications and treatments started for the patient. Wonderful and committed RN - went above and beyond for the patient and their family.
