An elderly female oncology patient came for admission for supportive care. During assessment, she was conscious, oriented, and ambulating. Sadly, due to the progression of the disease, the patient was deteriorating. Eman Mubar, a Saudi nurse, maintained a constant communication with the family and the physician.
During one of her conversations with the relative, she found out that the patient has a handicapped daughter. Eman coordinated with the multidisciplinary team and EMT department to help the mother and daughter reunite. Within 20 minutes, the daughter was transported by the EMT to the unit to visit her ill mother. Everyone involved gave a fast response.
Although it was a short visit, it was a heartwarming scene for everyone who witnessed it. The patient was semi-conscious and agitated but when she felt the presence of her daughter, she spontaneously reached out, grabbed her and kissed her hands. It was a very touching moment not only for the mother and daughter but even for the nurses around. Everyone in the room was shedding their tears.
Sadly, a few days after, the patient passed away. But the love between the mother and her daughter were strongly felt and will never be forgotten by those present in the room. The team may not be able to save her life but because of a compassionate nurse, she surely gave her patient's daughter one last moment with her mother that she will cherish forever.
