Ember Perry, BSN, RN, CEN

The word "professional" is a difficult word to define, but I know it when I see it. I saw it with Ember in the Emergency Department. Her bright smile and congeniality made my visit awesome.

Patients, when they enter the hospital, often feel overwhelmed with the loss of autonomy. The patient is not making any decisions. Ember talked to me. I knew everything that needed to be done in the short time I was under her care. The Mayo brothers, I am sure, wanted and needed nurses like Ember. She is an incredible human.

I have to believe that Ember's kindness and professionalism extend to each and every one she sees. Schopenhauer, the philosopher, wrote, "People will forget what you said and forget what you did, but people will never forget the way you made them feel."
