In my 70 years, I have been in Management quite a bit. What we look for in employees are people who care about what they are doing. They are easy to spot, and then we say, "She's a Keeper". By caring, I mean they pay attention and are careful. They take time to check everything. They will do little extras like picking stray garbage off the floor instead of ignoring it. They also anticipate what will happen and process it. Even if they are a nurse, they still, if necessary, empty the bedpan. They also help out and teach their co-workers. You can tell when they are trying to do a good job.

Nurse Emily Cardenas fulfills all those requirements. Quite often, she is 10 or 20 minutes early to work, and I see her staying past her shift to finish paperwork or to help another nurse with a problem. Basically, she is not lazy and loves her job.

More important is that all the nurses in my wing are superb, excellent - the best. They take such good care of me and treat me like a king, even when I am grumpy and fussy. I forgot to mention that Ms. Emi was also good at encouraging me to walk and exercise so I would heal faster. Stern but not too pushy.
