While providing care for a patient after an outpatient surgical procedure and assisting the patient to the car, Emilia used her observation and clinical judgement skills and trusted her intuition that the patient’s bleeding was more than the usual amount expected. Emilia brought the patient back into the hospital, had the provider reevaluate the patient, and it was determined emergency surgery was necessary to stop the bleeding. The patient lives alone, and had Emilia not sprung into action using her clinical skills and plenty of care and compassion, the patient may have had a severe medical complication without help nearby.
