I am honored to nominate the Emergency Department Team for the Team DAISY Award. Over the past year, this team has exemplified what it means to be resilient in the face of challenges and adversity. The ED team has shown remarkable resilience and adaptability not only over the past year but also as they navigate the challenges that lie ahead.

On the same day we transitioned to EPIC, our team successfully moved into our new emergency department. Every member played a vital role in ensuring a smooth transition while prioritizing patient safety. This dedication did not wane; our department continued to function under the demanding conditions and altered workflows caused by the ongoing remodeling and updates to the ER. Despite these significant changes, our team has persevered, successfully managing an increase in patient volume and patient holds. And in times of uncertainty, most especially with the ongoing measles outbreak, our team utilized a comprehensive, team-based approach to effectively establish protocols in protecting both patients and the community from further transmission.

Our team has also embraced challenges as opportunities for growth. They actively seek feedback, learn from setbacks, and apply those lessons to future endeavors, showcasing their commitment to personal and professional development. Our campus is on the path to achieving a Level 2 Trauma designation, and our team has dedicated countless hours to this goal. We have enhanced our skills and knowledge by participating in advanced courses and by collaborating with our peers at TMC-ED to learn from their expertise.

Over the past year, our team has faced numerous challenging and heartbreaking patient situations. We've navigated through a series of emotionally traumatic events, yet despite these hardships, we have remained optimistic and supportive of one another. This team thrives on a foundation of empathy and understanding. Each member genuinely cares about one another, fostering a supportive environment where individuals feel valued and heard. They prioritize active listening, take the time to understand different perspectives, and are quick to offer help to colleagues in need. Whether it’s providing emotional support during challenging times or celebrating each other’s successes, this team demonstrates kindness and consideration in all interactions. Their compassion extends beyond their immediate group, as they strive to make a positive impact on clients, patients, or the community they serve.

Courage is the team's guiding principle, enabling them to tackle difficult challenges and take bold initiatives. Members are unafraid to voice their opinions, even when they differ from the consensus, knowing that diverse perspectives enrich decision-making. They embrace change and are willing to step out of their comfort zones to explore new ideas and solutions. When faced with adversity or ethical dilemmas, this team stands firm in their convictions, advocating for what is right and just. Their bravery inspires others, fostering a culture where risks can be taken, mistakes are viewed as learning opportunities, and growth is celebrated.

I highly recommend the Emergency Department for this year’s team DAISY Award. The ED team exemplifies resilience, compassion, credibility, and courage in every endeavor. I wholeheartedly believe they deserve this recognition for their unwavering spirit, empathetic nature, and their courage that empowers them to face challenges head-on, driving innovation and progress, leading to positive contributions to our organization and ultimately making a lasting impact on their work and the lives of those they serve. Thank you for considering this nomination.

Thank you for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
