They have servant hearts and try to make every patient's worst day a little better.
The ED team has worked really hard in order to increase patient satisfaction scores. The ED understands that they are the first impression our patients get of our hospital. They are working hard to use our service commitments to be kind, work as a team, and listen to the patients. Most importantly, they are treating others as they would want to be treated. By following the service commitments, the team has increased the patient satisfaction scores/Qualtrics scores from running around 25-29 to now 50-55. This is an amazing accomplishment! The team is pulling patients out of the waiting room as fast as possible. Our patients are now seeing a provider within 12 minutes of coming through the door with the goal initially being 14 minutes. We have decreased our "left without being seen" number down to 0.93% for the month of March with a goal of less than 2%. This team is working extremely hard on changing the culture perception of the department. ED nurses don't often get the credit they deserve. They are very resilient. When things get busy with sick patients, they keep pushing and working hard to make sure everyone gets the care they deserve. They face many difficult, life altering situations, and then go to the next room as if nothing happened. For example: Recently, there was a house fire where a 5-year old boy lost his mother, grandmother, and 6-year old brother. The boy was brought to our ED to be assessed. The team was great with this little guy who literally just lost his family and all his belongings. The team took it upon themselves to collect donations for him. Our unit secretary went to Walmart and got him clothes, toys, shoes, and a backpack. Seeing the boy's face light up when he received the items, brought tears to the team's eyes knowing they had made the worst day of his life a little better. Another example: Just today, the team unfortunately had a pediatric code. These are the most dreaded situations that we have to face. Although it was not the outcome we wanted, the team handled it very well. It was reported to me from the House Supervisor, "Your team did the hardest thing with the most grace I have ever seen". Afterwards, they all went on to the next patient and kept going. They may have slowed down to catch their breath, but they kept going. This team works hard to make sure all the patients get treated with compassion and integrity. They have servant hearts and try to make every patient's worst day a little better. I can't say enough about this team and the impacts they make with the patients. I'm so proud of them, and hope they get the credit they truly deserve. Thank you.
