The Emergency Department is a dynamic team within Newark Beth Israel that requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary care team and the Emergency Department works with nearly all departments within the facility. Seeing approximately 250-300 patients per day, nearly half being Pediatric patients, this team has persevered and managed to overcome many challenges faced on a day-to-day basis. In addition to an environment that is sometimes considered to be “uncontrolled,” the Emergency Department has been tasked with working alongside many phases of construction. The Emergency Department has committed to various performance initiatives including, but not limited to, collaborating with the Hematology team to improve the experience of patients with Sickle Cell Disease, collaborating with the Labor and Delivery team to improve care of patients with maternal Hypertension, and working with our Behavioral Health leadership to ensure we are meeting the needs of our Mental Health population in the safest manner. Needless to say, this team is RESILIENT. The Nurses have shown true dedication to their work environment by constantly understanding the need to be flexible and practice safe care at all times, reflected in their increased Press Ganey scores and ability to meet system-wide LWOB percentages of less than 2%.
