Working in an Emergency Department requires astute assessment skills, flexibility and the ability to function no matter the issue. Highly skilled, compassionate healthcare providers staff the emergency department 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. They are always there. It is this culture that was noticed by a thankful family. The SLEH Emergency Department had the honor of winning the first ever DAISY Team Award. This is a great honor and a reflection of the work that has been done by each and every staff member to sustain that culture.
The Emergency Department team consists of nurses, physicians, medical and radiology technicians and more, working in unison to stabilize the patient who makes an unplanned visit to the Emergency Department. Their compassionate care in a critical setting for a patient who presented with an acute, even life threatening illness, and injury was noticed.
Over time, many patients become well known to us and they feel safe here. One of our patient's families wrote a beautiful letter depicting the care given by the staff here. The patient's family member stated that she believed her sister found "great solace in the nursing staff here at East and she found an overall sense of well-being when she was in the care of the emergency department". We want to thank this family for our DAISY Team Award and for recognizing our team.
