Lacey Cotter was our daughter’s nurse in the ED. She presented with difficulty breathing and not eating/drinking, which was terrifying for us, as parents to see. She was diagnosed with pneumonia from RSV and Covid. From the second she entered the room to the moment she brought us to the floor after being admitted, she explained each and every step to us. She answered all of our questions, and we felt fully informed the entire time. She has a calming peace about her and reassured us when we needed it most. When they were placing an IV in our infant's arm, she looked at me and asked, “Are you okay, mom?” Something so small as acknowledging our fear makes all the difference in those hard scary moments as parents. This ED is blessed to have her mind, skills, and heart, and it made the difficult experience a little painful knowing she was on our side!
Krissy Melancon: Krissy was the charge nurse in the ED. She assisted the nurse in getting us situated quickly and checked on us multiple times after. Her knowledge was apparent, and she radiated confidence in her skills, which put our minds and hearts more at ease. She ran the ED smoothly and calmly, which is exactly what parents of children and patients in general need in emergent situations.
Ashley Guillory - from calling us back to a room quickly and reassuring us every step of the way that they would take great care of our baby, she exuded compassion and kindness. She is an obvious leader as she took charge with ease, and it was clear everyone respected her. She updated us promptly about the admit status and the timeline. She is such a blessing to the ED and this community! She and Krissy also checked on us the next day.
Thank you so much to these three women who exemplify what a nurse truly should be!
