Emilie has a heart of gold and is often seen displaying compassionate care with both her gentle nature, as well as her kind words. She is not just supporting the patient but their family members as well, extending her care to ensure the affiliate needs are also met.
Emilie views all individuals as precious, especially those less fortunate. We have a large community of homeless patients in the ED. Emilie delivers the same care to a VIP as she would an individual less fortunate. She cares lovingly for our poor and vulnerable, for this we are all so proud.
The other day Emilie called and shared that she had called all staff to see if someone could cover one of her shifts, she expressed, "I know how busy we are and I cannot call off sick". She did not elaborate initially she simply said, "I may need to arrive late, it's personal but I really need to be somewhere else and it conflicts with my schedule". She stated that she wanted to be honest and hoped that maybe we could do something creative with the schedule which could allow her to essentially be in two places on the same eve, one of which was our busy ED.
We learned that Emilie donates her time caring for people outside of our department, the first Saturday of every month Emilie sets up at a local laundromat "La Familia" in Lomita, from l pm-4 pm she sets out to do laundry for those in need. She offers coffee, hot food, fluff, fold, and prayer as needed through what she calls "Laundry Love, Loving people one load at a time". The people who come with bags of laundry are greeted with warmth and compassion which is genuine from Emilie's heart. She washes laundry for those living on the streets, those who are without monies to do their own laundry and those who are struggling to get by.
Emilie is a true DAISY Nurse for her care daily both within the Providence walls and beyond. We, the Emergency Department Team nominate her with pride for she is an excellent, loving being. By the way, we were flexible with her schedule that night so she could continue her care for those in need outside of our department, it was truly a win-win.
