Emily Acker is one of the kindest and most compassionate humans I have ever met. She actively demonstrates Bryan Health’s core values to ensure her patients' and their families' needs are met. That may mean spending extra time reviewing education materials to ensure a full understanding of their post-procedure care or offering reassurance and a calm environment for a nervous patient. Emily consistently goes above and beyond to advocate for and provide safety for those under her care. She brings skill and heart to everything she does.
As a peer, Emily takes on tasks without hesitation to demonstrate teamwork and a strong work ethic. Emily is an effective informal leader as one of the charge nurses in Lincoln Digestive Health Center. In moments of stress, she remains calm and focused to address the matter at hand. As a preceptor, Emily fosters a welcoming and supportive learning environment. She uses her patience, expertise, and compassion to nurture and grow the confidence of those under her guidance.
Emily has a special knack for building optimism within our team in fun and creative ways. Occasionally, Emily will fill in to help with administrative assistant duties such as checking in patients and compiling patient charts for the next day. One day, she started writing a little fun fact, positive quote, or silly joke to place on the front of each patient chart for her coworkers to enjoy before bringing their patient to preop. The nurses sometimes shared the facts, quotes, etc., with their patients. It was such a little thing that uplifted the department's spirit drastically. It has become her signature trademark, and we all look forward to Emily’s “little notes”.
