Emily knows I value honest, realistic feedback regarding my care, and she never wavers from this approach.
When my metastatic breast cancer progressed in late 2022, I sought out the resources of EvergreenHealth’s Hospice Care. I was somewhat familiar with hospice services in general—my father benefitted from a hospital program as his health declined—but I was aware that there was much variation among services. From the moment I let my oncologist know that I was interested in what EvergreenHealth had to offer, I was immediately put at ease and fully educated in what the program could offer me. Everyone involved in the process as it pertained to me made themselves available and asked what they could do to assist me. One person in particular has stood out in terms of thoughtfulness, experience, knowledge, dedication, and compassion.
Emily Barnes RN, BSN, my designated case manager in the program, has risen way above and beyond her expected responsibilities. She is extremely educated in her nursing field and puts me at ease regarding all medical issues. Emily knows I value honest, realistic feedback regarding my care, and she never wavers from this approach. In addition, she is always available to answer any questions, advocate for me, and act as a catalyst to facilitate my ability to remain at home. I have never received such dedicated care from a hospital employee. It is extremely important to me to be able to spend my final days in my home surrounded by my very supportive family; Emily helps ensure that I can do this. I am nominating Emily Barnes for a DAISY Award to recognize her exemplary performance and dedication to her field. I am extremely grateful that she is on my team!

Emily was the perfect example of a Hospice Nurse to my wife J and me. You won't meet a more professional nurse with much experience and dedication to her profession. Her care and humanity are outstanding, she is very compassionate and dedicated to giving the "Best care Possible" to her patient. Sharing her pet with my wife was the highlight of her visit. I can't say enough about Emily and her assistance during my wife's Death with Dignity, just outstanding.
