Three years ago, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 36. On that day, I met Emily Lowery, and she gave me her personal cell phone number which I thought was amazing in itself. I have tried to use her number sparingly over the years, but there have been an occasional night or weekend messages and questions, and she is always very happy to respond and to lend a helping hand.

On Christmas Eve this year, my daughter came down with the flu. I was back in treatment again and needed to know what precautions I should take, so I texted Emily. Emily responded right away, got in touch with the on-call doctor, and they had a Tamiflu prescription ready for me within the hour so that I could pick it up before the pharmacy closed for Christmas. Emily continued to check in with me throughout the holiday to make sure that my children and I were feeling ok.

On New Year’s Eve, I started running a fever. I reached out to Emily, and she helped me navigate what to do when the clinic was closed for the weekend and I couldn't go to the infusion center because I had a temperature. We were in touch all day and into the evening on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Emily checked on me continuously as I waited at the ER for the appropriate tests and blood cultures to result and to see the doctor.

When the tests confirmed that I had COVID, Emily helped me find an appointment for monoclonal antibodies the following day, which was a Sunday. Emily took so much of her personal time to help me and my family during this holiday season, and I am so incredibly grateful for her. I was very scared and worried when I and my children were so sick, but Emily was with me every step of the way. Thank you, Emily, for always going above and beyond for me and for all of your patients! You are so special!
