I am writing to recognize Emily Dyer, a registered nurse in the Cardiac Clinical Decision Unit. I was recently a patient in the unit for four days following a pulmonary embolism, and I feel compelled to share my experience.

Being diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism and admitted to a cardiac unit is terrifying. I was placed on a heparin infusion, unable to get out of bed without assistance, and facing days of blood draws and monitoring as the team worked to get me to my therapeutic goal. It is the kind of situation where you feel completely dependent on the people caring for you — and every night that Emily walked into the room at the beginning of her shift, I felt a wave of relief. She became a steady and reassuring presence in what was otherwise an overwhelming experience.

When I needed to get up during her shift, she was there — patient, unhurried, and reassuring. Her compassionate bedside manner never wavered. What struck me most was how responsive she was to every request or concern I raised throughout my stay. Whether it was adjusting the infusion rate after a new set of labs, helping me move safely, or simply answering a worried question in the early hours of the morning, she never made me feel like I was being a burden. It was clear to me, even as a patient, that she maintains the highest standard of care in everything she does.

Over the days I was there, I got to see a lot of how a unit operates, and I noticed how Emily interacted with the rest of the team. She was calm and collaborative, and she brought a warmth to the unit that was felt well beyond my bedside. It was obvious that she contributes to a positive culture and that her colleagues respect her.

Emily is an asset to the cardiac care team, and from what I witnessed during my stay, she consistently exceeds expectations in every aspect of her role. I recommend her without reservation. She is the kind of nurse who reminds you why the profession matters, and I am deeply grateful she was there during one of the most frightening experiences of my life.

Thank you, Emily, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
