From the very first moment Emily walked into my room, I knew she had the kind of experience and intuition that only comes from truly caring for patients. I can often tell right away which nurses have that gift, and with Emily, it instantly clicked. She immediately recognized that I was in pain and, without me even needing to explain, she anticipated what I needed. Her empathy and intuition are unmatched.

Emily not only offered comfort but also gave me a clear plan for the day and took time to answer every question I had. She made me feel like she genuinely cared about how I was doing. She even showed me a clever "glove ice pack" trick that gave me more relief than any standard option I had been offered before. On top of that, she advocated for me to receive pain medication, and within a short time, I felt 10 times better - simply because I knew she cared enough to act on my behalf.

What amazed me most is how natural her compassion feels. I asked if she had children, and she said no, which shocked me - because she seemed to instinctively know everything I would need. She made me feel sane even when I was falling apart. I had the privilege of having Emily for a few shifts in a row, and I was always relieved and excited to see her walk in, knowing I would be in good hands.

One of the most meaningful moments came when I was hysterically crying. Emily came in, reassured me that what I was experiencing was a normal part of the process, and allowed me to feel comfortable expressing my emotions. Her presence and compassion calmed me in a way that I will never forget.

She was also incredibly patient with me at a time when I was overwhelmed by anxiety, exhaustion, and difficulty processing information after days in the hospital. She answered my questions over and over again without ever seeming irritated - not once. That patience and kindness stood out to me in a profound way.

Emily was also wonderful with my son. She made both my husband and me feel comfortable by teaching us what to look out for - not only for my recovery, but for our baby as well. She walked us through every step, and I know that must have taken so much of her time and energy. I honestly don't know how she balances caring for mom, dad, and baby all in one room, not to mention all her other patients. To me, she is truly a superwoman, and I hope she knows just how much every moment she spent with us meant to me.

Emily also supported me in breastfeeding, offering knowledge and guidance that made a big difference. She constantly made sure I was prepared and that all my questions were answered. She never once made me feel like a burden - instead, she made me feel cared for, respected, and safe.

All of the staff were wonderful, but Emily truly puts every fiber of her being into her work. As a nurse myself, I hope my patients feel the same way about me as I felt under Emily's care. Her compassion, empathy, and skill made me feel truly cared for during one of the hardest times, and I cannot thank her enough. Emily Dysart is exactly the kind of nurse the DAISY Award was created to honor.

Thank you, Emily, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
