Emily has been the constant presence of leadership for her team and advocates for them daily. She represents them on all forums and supports what is best for her patients and the department.
Emily is the clinical manager of 3 South. She has been running the unit for several months since her Nurse Manager has been recovering from serious medical issues. She did not hesitate to step into the leadership role and has shined beyond belief!

Creating an environment where attributes of trust, compassion, mutual respect, continued professional development and ethical behavior are modeled and supported: This happened the minute Emily was called to charge. She assured the team did not feel a ripple as she continued to run the unit as it had been all along (with some improvements that put her mark on leadership!) She works tirelessly every day!

Being accessible, available, and responsive to the needs of their team: Emily has worked multiple night shifts to support the team while maintaining a strong presence during the day.

Problem-solving and encouraging critical thinking: Emily knew there were some team dynamic issues that needed to be addressed. She orchestrated open forum meetings to give each colleague the opportunity to express their concerns and celebrate the unit's accomplishments. Each session ended with the construction of a team plan to strive toward continued improvement. She is a visible and dynamic leader who focuses on patients and quality care.

Advocating for their teams: Emily has been the constant presence of leadership for her team and advocates for them daily. She represents them on all forums and supports what is best for her patients and the department.

Ensuring that the needs of the teams are communicated to organization leadership and organizational priorities and directions are communicated to their teams: She consistently follows through with closing the loop on communication to her team and leaders. She discusses Midas reports and focuses the team toward changes in practice that better serve our patients.

Being compassionate leaders: This is Emily’s greatest gift. Not only does she continue to provide her team with the compassionate leadership they need to be successful, she leads the night shift council for the hospital to ensure all colleagues are recognized and appreciated. Coming from night shift herself, she knows how it may feel at times to have little contact with leadership. She has helped organize multiple events to engage the night shift and bring leaders to them for the opportunity to be recognized and celebrated. She leads the night shift council and has coordinated multiple events to recognize our night shift colleagues. The most recent event was the night shift carnival, which was extremely well received as a gift of respect and thanks. She incorporates the members of the council to let them shine for their peers and recognizes their dedication!
