We had a kiddo that was diagnosed with rheumatic fever-a disease we really do not see anymore. It completely changed his life. He will have treatments for the rest of his life, due to this sudden illness. He is faced with multiple health challenges. He currently cannot go to school and shortly will be on bed rest due to a series of needed surgeries.
Emily Fusiek worked really hard with our Foundation to do something special. Emily spoke to the patient's mom on several occasions to determine what the child likes and was able to get funding from the Arnett Foundation to buy a box of "surprises" for the child so that he could have something to look forward to and be entertained while on bedrest.
He was really upset he could not be in school with his friends, playing sports, and enjoying the outdoors. Emily worked with his teacher at the school to place a teddy bear at his desk while he is out so that his friends would think of him and keep him close.
He was incredibly excited to receive this surprise, this show of love, compassion, and support for him as he begins his long road to recovery.
