Our experience today was made truly special because of Emily Henion's kindness, compassion, and attention to detail. My 3-year-old son was very shy and nervous coming in for his ear tube surgery, but she immediately created a warm, playful environment that helped him feel safe.
When she learned about his love for the Hulk, Emily went out of her way to make him a personalized "Strong and Brave Like the Hulk" certificate. That small, thoughtful gesture completely changed his mood. He went from anxious to smiling and excited, which meant everything to us as parents.
What stood out just as much was her care for our whole family. Emily remembered that I (Mom) had recently undergone emergency surgery just a few days prior, which made us feel seen and valued. While my husband accompanied our son back for the procedure, I stayed in the waiting room with our 11-month-old. Without hesitation, Emily stepped in to help, holding and entertaining my baby so I would not strain myself so soon after surgery.
That level of awareness and compassion went far beyond our expectations. Emily did not just care for a patient; she cared for our entire family during a stressful moment. Her kindness, empathy, and genuine thoughtfulness turned what could have been an overwhelming day into a positive and meaningful experience.
We are incredibly grateful for the difference she made.
