Emily was caring for a hospice patient who was waiting for a hospice bed. The patient was alert and oriented and he and Emily struck up a relationship. She bathed him, gave personal hygiene care and spent time talking to him. Later in the shift, the patient took a turn for the worse. Emily spoke with the family over the phone on more than one occasion to keep them informed. Emily sat down beside the patient, held his hand and read the Bible to him as she waited for the family. Unfortunately, the family did not arrive in time, but the patient did not pass alone. Emily stayed with him as he passed. This is just one of many examples of the exemplary care I have witnessed Emily provide her patients during her time working at Huguley.
