These past few weeks have been the hardest weeks of our lives. Emily was one of my son's nurses. Our son was born very early (28 weeks) and measured around 24 weeks. He was a huge challenge for the staff and everyone was great. However, the nurse that stood out, that shined the most, was Emily. She always had a smile, no matter what was going on. My son, although he was so tiny, knew when she would arrive. He did so great. As she moved around he tried his hardest to follow her voice. Emily was gentle and always had a smile on her face.
Emily went above and beyond with not only my baby but with my family and me. Emily brought us everything we needed to feel comfortable so that we could be with our baby. She helped me learn to change my tiny little baby and she showed me how to feed him without being asked. She explained every procedure.
Sadly, my baby passed away a few days after he was born. What truly touched us is that up until the very last minute, Emily loved our little one as if he was her own, and I know he did too and that he felt how much he was and is loved by her, as us as well. She is the most genuine, compassionate, and hardworking person that we have ever met.
Emily treated us like family and never like just strangers visiting her patient. We could write pages about Emily; she is the kind of role model that all nurses and doctors should follow.
