From the very beginning, she transformed that fear into comfort. She has been nothing short of amazing—not just for me, but for every patient I hear her interact with.
Nomination 1:
Emily Lewis demonstrated incredible care, compassion, and support to my mother during one of the most difficult times of her life. When my mom was first diagnosed with cancer, she was overwhelmed with fear. Before her first infusion appointment, all she could do was cry. She was terrified of what was ahead—of the treatment, of the unknown, and of how it would change her life.
Then, she met Emily. From the moment Emily greeted her, something shifted. Emily has a way of making people feel safe, seen, and heard. She didn’t just administer care—she gave comfort, listened with compassion, explained each step with patience, and never once made my mom feel like just another patient. She treated her like a person going through something hard and deserving of gentle care. That made all the difference.
Her calm presence, warm smile, and constant reassurance helped ease my mother’s fears in ways that words cannot fully express. She took what was one of the scariest moments in our lives and turned it into an experience of hope and trust. She gave my mother dignity and peace, which is something we will always be thankful for. Her professionalism, kindness, and the level of care she provides to her patients are truly exceptional. She is a wonderful nurse, caregiver, and person. Baptist Hospital is so fortunate to have someone like her on its team. She is a true gift to every patient she cares for.
Nomination 2:
Emily Lewis brings extraordinary compassion, professionalism, and dedication to the cancer infusion center. Being diagnosed with cancer is one of the most frightening moments a person can experience. You hear countless horror stories and walk into treatment unsure of what to expect. From the very beginning, she transformed that fear into comfort. She has been nothing short of amazing—not just for me, but for every patient I hear her interact with.
She is incredibly caring and patient. She takes the time to explain every step of the infusion process in a way that is easy to understand, making sure you are comfortable, informed, and reassured every step of the way. No question is too small for her, and no concern goes unnoticed. Her calm and cheerful presence helps make the infusion center feel less like a treatment facility and more like a place where hope is possible.
Her constant attentiveness and gentle manner mean so much during long, exhausting sessions. She never stops checking in, always with a smile, making sure there is no discomfort, and always providing reassurance. You never feel alone in your journey with her by your side. She truly makes a difference, not just with her medical skills, but with the kindness and heart she brings into every interaction.
Nomination 3:
Today, I complete 6 of 6! Emily asked if I wanted to ring the bell today. She saw I was apprehensive. I have been on this journey for 15 years, 5 chemo infusion cycles, and several admissions, one major surgery. Emily was totally attuned to my energy, so as an alternative, she asked if I would rather wait until my final PET scan. She is an incredible professional with a wonderful personality. She is caring and compassionate, and a true asset to MCI. It never ceases to amaze me how wonderful each and every staff member is. I thank God every day that I walk in here, and it is often, for my team of professionals keeping me on this side of the pitch!
