Not only does she make her patients feel well cared for, but she makes them laugh and brings light to their days whenever possible.
“Emily is a compassionate nurse; despite all the challenges thrown at her, she showed empathy to my father-in-law. She is culturally competent as she relates to my father-in-law, mother-in-law, and wife, who are of African origin. She provided us with education about various tests, labs, and medication adjustments during my father’s in-law admission to the unit. My father-in-law was transferred from the ED with a heart condition. She showed exceptional professionalism during the admission period. Excellent attitude. She provided us with excellent discharge education and gave my father-in-law hope for the future. Thanks, Emily, and God bless.”

This nomination by a patient's family is just one example of how Emily made a positive impact on a patient's and family's experience while in the hospital. Emily has worked here for over 5 years and is truly a DAISY Nurse, very deserving of the award as evidenced by the connections she makes with patients and families on a daily basis.  She is frequently sought out by patients and families who return to the unit to thank her after discharge (or, in some cases, after their loved one has passed).  Not only does she make her patients feel well cared for, but she makes them laugh and brings light to their days whenever possible.   When her patients are taking a turn for the worse, she is quick to act, advocating for the appropriate interventions working collaboratively with providers, STAT RN, and RT.  Her patients are in the best of hands when she is their nurse.
