In general, Emily seemed genuinely compassionate and willing to spend extra time answering questions and being sure we as a family understood what was happening and what medication was being given and why. Of course, that is all part of her job. But what struck my Dad as extraordinary happened around shift change one morning.
Emily noticed that my Mom was having a hard time breathing and was unable to cough up anything and was also having more pain. Instead of "passing the buck" to the day shift as it was after 7:00 am, she showed that genuine compassion I mentioned earlier by staying an extra 1-1/2 hours until my Mom was comfortable again and she had gotten the hospice nurse to come and filled her in on everything.
Thank you, Emily!
