She went to my house and made sure my cat was okay (she also gave him some more water and food). When she was done, she stopped back by my room, reassured me that my "fur ball" was fine, and even showed me pictures she had taken of him on her phone!
From the first time I met her, I could see that Emily was a special, caring person. She lent her ear when I expressed my concerns and I felt that she always had time for me. When I ran out of library books, she made sure to bring the floor cart "little library" to my room. She even pointed out one book as a potential good read. She was right! I shared with her my concern for my cat, which had been left alone in my home. I had put out food and water, but my anxiety increased as my hospital stay lengthened. She offered to check in on him on my fourth day here, and I politely declined, thinking I’d be going home the next day. Well, I had a setback, and my release date was postponed. That news unfortunately caused me to have a mini meltdown, and I poured my heart out to Emily. My "pity party" was over my life circumstances, i.e., that I am old, sick, poor, and literally all alone in the world. Soon after our chat, she sent a chaplain in to see me. He was a great help, and he validated the fact that I had some pretty good reasons to feel depressed. It’s always a pleasant surprise when someone listens and doesn't dismiss those feelings. Later that day I asked Emily if her offer to look in on my cat was still on the table. She said, "Of course. Anything for the animals!" At the end of her shift, she went to my house and made sure my cat was okay (she also gave him some more water and food). When she was done, she stopped back by my room, reassured me that my "fur ball" was fine, and even showed me pictures she had taken of him on her phone! Emily really gave me peace of mind in so many ways. She is the embodiment of the definition of what a nurse should be. Please recognize her for her loving, patient care. I will always be grateful, and I'll never forget her actions in my time of need.
