Emily Mock, RN

I am honored to nominate Emily Mock for the DAISY Award. Nurse Emily has demonstrated exceptional care during her time at UCI Health Placentia Linda. As a bedside nurse, Emily consistently goes above and beyond, taking the time to teach her patients and their families about their medical conditions and treatments in a compassionate, understandable manner.
She recently cared for a patient who was discharged from a hospital with a new tracheostomy. Upon going home, the patient and the family quickly realized they did not receive adequate teaching to manage the patient’s condition at home and subsequently rushed to their nearest emergency room, bringing them to UCI Placentia Linda. Emily graciously comforted the patient and family, reassuring them she would make sure they were confident upon discharge to care for their loved one at home. The first issue she encountered was a language barrier. She made sure to use translation services with each encounter, spending extra time to ensure adequate understanding. Emily checked all the patient’s home supplies and coordinated with care management and respiratory therapy to ensure the patient had everything they needed for home. She then spent time educating the patient and family on equipment, functions, and purpose. She taught them safe care and assessed their knowledge to ensure understanding. She made this very difficult transition into a comfortable learning experience so the family could be successful and easily care for their beloved family members. Emily is a warm and loving nurse, and we see this every day in her practice at the bedside. I am so proud to work alongside her.
