Emily cared for an MMH employee's wife while she was experiencing chest pain and palpitations. The wife's father passed away from an unexpected massive heart attack at the age of 45, so naturally, both the employee and wife were terrified by these symptoms. The wife's heart rate was ranging from 35 to 118 in less than a minute and she was having lots of chest pain. The employee said that from the moment they presented in the ER waiting room until they were discharged, the staff couldn't have been more caring, professional, kind, and compassionate. They reacted quickly, but didn't panic, and explained every single test that was being run and why. They recognized Emily in particular and said Emily is a gem. The employee said, "I've worked in and around healthcare for almost 25 years and [Emily] is hands-down the best nurse that I've been around from a patient and a professional perspective. It was crystal clear to me that nursing isn't just a job to Emily, it is her calling and she was our answered prayer last night." The wife received a beta blocker to regulate her heart rate and was given a referral to a cardiologist. The couple left feeling as though they had received the best possible care given the situation.

Emily's director said it is no surprise that Emily was recognized because she treats all her patients and their families with empathy, care, and professionalism. "I am so proud to have Emily on our team!".
Emily's clinical manager said that Emily is his go-to person when it comes to pediatric procedures, IVs, or medications. She is very knowledgeable in this area due to her time spent at Dallas Children's. He also said that Emily has been a refreshing attitude to have in the department. "She comes to work every day and is able to put smiles on patients' and family members' faces in the midst of some of their worst days," he said. "Time after time, patients tell me she is the example of what a nurse should be and everyone could use a caring heart like hers. It is my pleasure to work with her and we are lucky to have her on our team."
Because of Emily's compassionate and caring efforts, her patients experience a level of care that exemplifies the impact nurses have in creating an environment where patients and families feel at home.
