Emily shows compassion and care for her patients, the patient’s support system, the endoscopy staff, and interdepartmentally with everyone she encounters.
Emily Obermiller is a nurse in whom I have seen tremendous growth over the years. She recently was promoted to the core charge position, and she was an obvious choice for the unit. With this promotion, Emily was required to step down from the clinical ladder program facilitator position where she not only led from a hospital-wide standpoint but also encouraged the endoscopy unit staff to go through the clinical ladder program for themselves and led the endoscopy unit to have the greatest percentage of staff to achieve clinical ladder status. Emily has a heart for process improvement. She goes out of her way to seek ways to make the endoscopy unit function more efficiently, ensure staff have the resources they need, and provide additional education when appropriate. Emily has a lot on her plate outside of work. She and her husband own a home remodeling business and she has an active family with three children. With all she has going on outside of work, she continually embodies the phrase “Be Here Now”. At work, she is fully engaged with staff and the work that needs to be done to make the unit function well and ensure patients are cared for to the best of our ability. Staff report feeling well supported by Emily and they know that any concerns that are brought to her attention will be addressed and followed up appropriately. Emily has a growth mindset for the endoscopy unit and for herself. She is always seeking out ways to improve her skills. She has modeled this by taking classes, doing research, seeking personal development through CentraCare resources, and pursuing mentorship through our own exceptional leadership. Emily shows compassion and care for her patients, the patient’s support system, the endoscopy staff, and interdepartmentally with everyone she encounters. Emily collects patient feedback for our department by analyzing Press Ganey surveys. She doesn't stop at data collection and reporting feedback to staff, but it drives her to continue to be a patient advocate for patient safety and patient satisfaction in all her care interactions. Emily lives out the mission to listen, serve, guide, and heal every day.
