March 2026 Honoree
Emily Opsincs, RN
I came in with the loss of a baby that was not mine. I was a surrogate. The baby died of unknown causes. I was terrified and upset that I would be treated differently.
I knew that Labor and Delivery was a place of happiness and celebration. I was scared that, on top of the pain, the people would not want to serve me. When I got there, I quickly made a connection with Emily who had been at my previous surrogate birth. Her presence put me at ease as we shared amazing stories about the previous birth that she had been a part of.
She reminded me of the successful birth and the child that I had provided for another happy family. We laughed and smiled as we shared the pictures of that last birth. This broke down so many walls, and we talked about loss and that it was okay to feel like this. I talked about how scared I was about giving birth to a stillborn baby, and she walked me thru every step, which eased my soul knowing that the nurses remembered the good I did for another family.
This situation is unimaginable until you are in it, no one deserves to feel the pain of losing a baby whether it is your biological child or not. Thank you so much for the phenomenal service and the time and care I received.
