I was admitted to WellSpan York Hospital. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I stayed for a little over 90 days. I was feeling incredibly sad and down because I was missing all the summer and fall activities. I just wanted to be outside and get some fresh air. My nurse, Emily, set her mind to work.  She was thinking about how she could work it so that I could get outside.  I was on bed rest, so the task was not as easy as putting me in a wheelchair and pushing me outside.  It would take some coordination.  Emily first had to get permission from her nurse manager.  After that, she had to coordinate the weather and her time.  Emily had a five-day weekend, and she came in on her day off to make this all happen. Emily and the team got me on a stretcher, and her nurse manager, a nursing assistant, and Emily took me outside to the courtyard. There was a wonderful breeze and sunshine, the temperature was 72 degrees, and I could smell someone cooking on the grill. We were outside for 45 minutes to an hour.  It was better than fantastic.  Even though things were looking and feeling pretty bleak for me, Emily brightened my spirits. I can't thank Emily enough.  Emily is very efficient, caring, kind, and smart.  She is a definite asset to WellSpan Health.  Emily is very deserving of the DAISY Award.  She exceeds the criteria.  Thank you, Emily!
