There was a patient on the 6Med/Surg unit who was here for about a week. Emily had the honor of having this patient on the day of discharge. While preparing for discharge, the patient expressed to Emily that he couldn't wait to get home because his wife who has dementia was at home. He also mentioned that he was upset he missed Valentine's Day (which was also their wedding anniversary) with his wife. Upon discharge, Emily took the patient to the gift shop to help him buy flowers for his wife. After getting flowers, Emily helped the patient to his car and ensured all the snow and ice was off of his car so he could safely make it home. The compassion Emily provided this patient exemplifies what a Mercy nurse is.
