Emily is absolutely amazing, the compliments that I hear about her from her coworker are fabulous. They say she will never leave her wing-man. Emily's compassion for her patients has touched her coworkers, families, and patients in a way that should be recognized.
Emily recently cared for a 26 year old that had suffered from multiple strokes. Due to her condition, the patient had not been out of bed for weeks. Emily was persistent concerning her mobility and getting her up and moving. The family was grateful and also persistent. She worked diligently with her, encouraging the patient to be weight bearing, easing the patient's fears and anxiety, and finally getting her up into a chair. Emily's assessment and communication skills with physical therapy is what lead her to eventually walking. The patient took her first steps and Emily was noticed to have tears in her eyes. This patient had touched her heart and was noticed by her coworkers. She stood there with the patient's mother, while physical therapy made great strides walking with her. Emily showed an abundance of compassion and was an outstanding role model. She later that day recognized that the patient wanted her hair washed. On 9 south we do not stock shampoo caps; so Emily went out of her way and went to 3 South to get one and ensured her hair was washed. While rounding on this patient, she was so grateful to Emily and felt she made a difference in her care. The patient said she was so scared to leave the room and Emily helped her cope with this. I am so proud of Emily, she is a newer nurse that exemplifies so much compassion. Her coworkers have recognized this and wanted this to be known. She is truly a DAISY Nurse in every way.
Emily takes Nursing to another level. She always puts her Patient's welfare first. Emily always provides for both physical and emotional needs, and includes family members. We can all learn from her kindness and compassion. Thank you Emily for being such a great example and role model.
